What is insomnia? Who gets insomnia? What are the ways to go about treatment and resolution of this problem? Insomnia is typically defined in a number of ways but typically will involve complaints of difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, waking prior to the desired time and all contributing to daytime symptoms. Typically the patient will describe themselves as being a poor sleeper or describe that they *hate* the way that they sleep. This does not have to be the case. Unfortunately, out of desperation and frustration, some of the coping mechanisms can contribute to worsened insomnia.
